Franklin County Woman Arrested for Insurance Fraud

NEW YORK, NY (08/12/2009)(readMedia)--

A Franklin County woman who was paid $8,000 for an insurance claim she filed after falsely reporting that cash and jewelry had been stolen from her home was arrested Aug. 4, the New York State Insurance Department reported.

State police at Malone arrested Kelly C. Greene, 28, of County Route 19, Westville, following an investigation by John Toucher of the Insurance Department's Frauds Bureau.

The investigation was begun when New York Central Mutual Fire Insurance Company reported that Greene's insurance claim was suspicious. Greene claimed that her home was burglarized and that the money and jewelry had been taken from a safe.

Greene was charged with felony insurance fraud. If she is convicted, she could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

The case is being prosecuted in Franklin County Court by District Attorney Derek Champagne.
