Freedom Salute for 133rd Engineer Batallion and 1035th Survey and Design Team

AUGUSTA, ME (08/08/2014)(readMedia)-- A Freedom Salute ceremony will be held for the 133rd Engineer Battalion and 1035th Survey and Design Team on Sunday, 17 August, 2014 at 10:00am. The event will take place at the Androscoggin Bank Collisee, 190 Birch Street, Lewiston, Maine 04240.

Soldiers will gather at the high school, march to the Collisee and arrive at 10:00am. The festivities should be finished by 11:00am.

On 10 August, 2013, the 133rd Engineer Battalion was mobilized in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The 133rd Battalion includes 3 separate units, the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Forward Support Company and the 1035th Survey and Design Team.

During their deployment mission, Headquarters and Headquarters Company provided operational guidance and support to a battalion of six engineer companies spread across an area the size of Texas and Oklahoma. They provided materiel recovery element engineer support to the four regional commands. The Forward Support Company is designed to provide forward logistical assistance to engineer line companies. They have a distribution platoon, a maintenance platoon, and a mess platoon. Together, HHC and FSC provide the command and control and logistics support for the 133rd Engineer Battalion.

The much smaller 1035th Survey and Design Team provided engineer surveys of jobsites and detailed drawings for both vertical, horizontal, and geospatial engineer missions to every company in the 133rd Engineer Battalion. They ensured that all engineer projects were designed and constructed to standard, providing quality assurance and quality control for engineer projects. Of particular note this unit provided survey support to the largest Air Force construction project ever undertaken on Bagram Airfield.
