Fundraising Breakfasts to Raise Money for Disaster Relief Victims
ALBANY, NY (06/11/2013)(readMedia)-- The Albany County Legislature's Democratic Majority and Pearl Street Diner, both located in downtown Albany, New York will be hosting two fundraisers to support those that have been affected by the recent tornados, flooding and wildfires throughout Oklahoma and Texas. Monies raised from these events will be given to the American Red Cross's Disaster Relief Fund.
"This is the least we can do, those people have all endured so much these past few weeks," said Frank Commisso Sr., Majority Leader, Albany County Legislature, "All I can say, is that, we are one nation and we are united, we are here to help each other out, I look forward to seeing members of our community connect for such a wonderful cause."
A free breakfast will be offered at the Diner on Monday, June 17, 2013 and again on Monday, June 24, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, for those who come show their support. A suggested minimum contribution has been set at $25 per person. Members of the Democratic Majority will be in attendance as well as NENY Red Cross Volunteers and Representatives.
"As a part of County Government, we understand these people have a long road to recovery," said Shawn Morse, Chairman, Albany County Legislature, "We understand their needs, both physical and psychological. We are hoping that our effort to raise awareness and our contributions will be one step closer for these people to regain stability in their lives."
The American Red Cross is seeking donations only. Donations will help continue providing food, shelter, emergency aid and emotional support for those who have been affected.
Advance donations are also being accepted and can be dropped off to the Pearl Street Diner until 3:00 PM on Monday, June 24, 2013. Donation Forms will be available from Diner staff. All checks should be made out to: American Red Cross "Disaster Relief".
"This initiative shows how strong our community is when we work together," said Sean Ward, Deputy Majority Leader, Albany County Legislature, "Every little bit helps, I'm honored that we can help support the victims get back on their feet and would like to thank the first responders and organizations like the Red Cross, because without them, none of this would be possible!"
