BATAVIA, NY (10/27/2011)(readMedia)-- Genesee Community College is pleased to announce Financial Aid Counselor Lisa Papke was honored with the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association (NYSFAAA) Region Two Service Award. Lisa was honored with the award at the NYSFAAA conference which was held October 18-20, 2011 at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, NY. In addition to her service award, Lisa was honored with the NYSFAAA Citation of Appreciation for her work with novice training.
As a financial aid counselor, Lisa assists students and families in understanding the financial aid and student loan process. In addition, she certifies the federal student loans and private student loans and serves as the coordinator of Veteran Services.
Before working in Financial Aid at GCC, Lisa worked in the accounting department at Harris Moran Seed Company in Rochester and at PM Associates in Le Roy; leaving there to take a position in the Business Office at GCC where she worked in Student Accounts and Payroll. Lisa then took a position in Financial Aid and has been there for almost seven years. In total, Lisa has served the college community for 22 years.
Lisa holds an AAS in Business Administration from GCC, a BS in Liberal Studies from The College at Brockport and an MS in Management from Keuka College. She is a member of NYSAAA and a member of State University of New York Financial Aid Professionals (SUNYFAP). Previous to her service award, Lisa was honored with the NYSFAAA Rising Star Award in 2008.
Lisa is the co-chairperson of the NYSFAAA Novice Training workshop, which is a weeklong training session for new financial aid employees. She also was the chair of the registration committee for the NYSFAAA Conference, which is a charitable, volunteer association of financial aid professionals advocating for, and promoting equal access to post secondary education for all students. NYSFAAA offers education, professional development, and networking opportunities for its members and for colleagues in related education, business, and governmental professions.
Originally from Fillmore, NY, Lisa now resides in Batavia with her husband, Dale Cassidy, step sons, Caleb and Corey Cassidy, two dogs, Sadie and Bambi; and her cat Hootie Lou. In her spare time Lisa enjoys playing golf, gardening, crocheting and snowshoeing.
