CHESTERTOWN, MD (04/19/2012)(readMedia)-- Washington College is pleased to announce that Gabrielle Tarbert '13, daughter of Pamela Tarbert of Bel Air, Maryland, recently participated in a Spring Break trip to Japan, as part of her "Japanese Politics and Foreign Policy" class. During the weeklong trip to Japan, a group of Washington College students carried goodwill and aid from Kent County, MD, to the people of Matsushima, a seaside city ravaged by last year's tsunami. Their gifts included a cash donation of more than $7,000 to fund a new library building on Miyato, one of the 33 islands that are part of Matsushima, plus a collection of children's picture books to start filling the shelves. The group of 17 classmates and two professors also studied Japanese society and politics during their venture.
Tarbert is majoring in Political Science. She is a member of the Varsity Women's Field Hockey team, a member of the College Democrats, and a Relay for Life Committee head. She graduated from C. Milton Wright High School.
Founded in 1782 under the patronage of George Washington, Washington College is a private, independent college of liberal arts and sciences located in colonial Chestertown on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
