Background: From October 2 - October 25, 2018 the Roz Steiner Art Gallery on Genesee Community College's Batavia campus will display a special selection of works from the Gerald Mead Collection.
The exhibition will feature 40 pieces produced in a variety of media selected for the artists' connection to Buffalo either by birth or residency. The artworks range from an early 20th century painting by Lucius Hitchcock, a past president of the Buffalo Society of Artists, to a 2015 wood block print by Joseph Scheer, professor of Print Media, and co-director/founder of the Institute for Electronic Arts at the School of Art and Design, Alfred University. The selection spans several decades and is unique in that it features many of the largest works in the Gerald Mead Collection, some of which have never been exhibited.
Collectively these works explore the range and depth of artistic expression in our region and underscore the achievements of the artists who created them. The artists included are: Robert Baeumler, Edward Bisone, Bruce Blair, Lawrence Calcagno, Alan Cober, Max Collins, Sally Cook, Allan D'Arcangelo, Suzann Denny, Russell Drisch, Nancy Dwyer, Kurt Feuerherm, Robert Finn, Insoon Ha, Kathy High, Lucius Hithcock, Patrick Holderfield, Barbara Insalaco, Jed Jackson, Robert Kaupelis, Robert Longo, Eric Magnuson, David Mann, Margaret Martin, Patrick Mills, Frank Moore, Westley Olmsted, James Pappas, James Paulsen, Endi Poskovic, Sally Potenza, Susan Rothenberg, Joseph Scheer, Cindy Sherman, Jeff Sherven, Peter Stephens, Virginia Tillou, Andrew Topolski, Alex Young and Michael Zwack.
