ALBANY, NY (06/05/2009)(readMedia)-- Maureen Torelli, vice president and executive director of Glen Arden, Elant Inc.'s Continuing Care Retirement Community in Goshen, has won the Thomas Clarke Award from the New York Association of Homes & Services for the Aging.

NYAHSA presents the award annually to a distinguished long term care administrator age 40 or younger. It recognizes outstanding personal integrity and professional dedication in serving the elderly and people with disabilities or special needs.

Torelli has dedicated her education, career and personal life to the field of long term care and community service. She embodies the personality traits, professionalism and energizing spirit all young administrators dedicated to the field should cultivate.

Torelli began her career as a medical social worker for geriatric patients in 1993, director of admissions and deputy commissioner for a 520-bed SNF and then as administrator for Elant's managed long term care plan.

Six years ago, Torelli became vice president and executive director for Glen Arden, Elant's CCRC. Her energy, compassion, kindness and care are trademark traits with residents, staff and community members alike. As a leader, she is unparalleled, and the more than 110 employees she oversees on the Glen Arden campus all deliver the same respect and kindness Torelli gives everyone. Under her leadership, the staff has developed a culture of customer service that unfailingly garners comments and compliments from residents, family members, friends and other visitors.

She brings a positive, energetic devotion to whatever she does, which this year will include spearheading Glen Arden's most innovative and creative project ever. Torelli will be at the helm as Glen Arden converts the 40-bed SNF unit of the CCRC into a small house model that will offer residents a more home-like environment and a shift to a more person-centered care environment.

Torelli's work day rarely ends at 6 p.m., yet she makes time for social and community responsibilities. She has served on the Hudson Valley Alzheimer's Association Board since 2003 and is an active member - and president-elect - of the Goshen, N.Y., Rotary Club.

Torelli's integrity, professionalism, energy, commitment and dedication have earned her the honor of the Thomas Clarke Memorial Award.
