Grand Tower, Marion Soldiers share top spot at honor guard course
SPRINGFIELD, IL (08/05/2017) (readMedia)-- SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Spc. Brittany Smith of Marion, Illinois, a Soldier with the 233rd Military Police Company based in Springfield, Illinois, and Spc. Hunter Levan of Grand Tower, Illinois, a Soldier with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry Regiment based in West Frankfort, Illinois, were named distinguished honor graduates for the Illinois Army National Guard's Military Funeral Honors qualification course held at Camp Lincoln In Springfield, Illinois.
The week-long course is designed to train Soldiers wanting to become members of the Illinois National Guard's Funeral and Honors Team and to prepare them for the national-level course. At the end of the course, soldiers are given their yellow cords and honor guard uniform tabs. The team, based in Springfield, Illinois, has small teams in various locations throughout the state that provide thousands of military funerals for deceased veterans year-round.
