ALBANY, NY (02/07/2012)(readMedia)-- In response to remarks made by Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Joseph Martens during his budget testimony today, Environmental Advocates of New York released the following statement, attributable to Katherine Nadeau, Water & Natural Resources Program Director:
"Environmental Advocates of New York was pleased today to hear DEC Commissioner Martens state unequivocally that Governor Cuomo's budget proposal does not include new resources related to industrial gas drilling by means of fracking. We were especially pleased to hear that resources would not be transferred from other agencies to the DEC to accelerate permitting for fracking in New York.
Environmental Advocates of New York calls on the Governor and the State Legislature to ensure the final state budget is frack-free."
