ALBANY, NY (09/27/2011)(readMedia)-- In response to the release of the most recent Siena poll regarding New Yorkers' attitudes about gas drilling by means of hydraulic fracturing or "fracking," Environmental Advocates of New York released the following statement:
"Today's Siena Poll is another wake-up call to Governor Cuomo and state leaders: New Yorkers are worried about fracking and are more inclined to trust those sharing real information about its dangers and its costs to communities. From Buffalo to Brooklyn, New Yorkers are choosing facts and science over industry spin.
People statewide are concerned that fracking poses risks to drinking water and the environment. Based on Environmental Advocates of New York's review of the state's draft drilling plan, and our participation on the state's fracking Advisory Panel, these concerns are well-founded. Despite the Governor's public statements, science is not driving this process.
Governor Cuomo needs to slow the rush to drill and implement the strictest regulations and laws possible if he allows fracking to proceed in New York.
Environmental Advocates of New York remains confident that the more New Yorkers learn about fracking, the less they want it in their communities."
