Green Watchdog to Release New Report on Fracking Wastewater Disposal for NY's Existing Gas Wells

ALBANY, NY (05/03/2012)(readMedia)-- While New York State's pending decision on industrial gas drilling by means of hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," has generated intense public concern, less attention has been paid to the state's current low-volume fracking operations. Environmental Advocates of New York will release a new report on the Department of Environmental Conservation's (DEC) oversight of existing gas wells, 90 percent of which use low-volume fracking.

The group's report draws from review of permit documents from the DEC for operating gas wells in New York State.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo is contemplating whether to allow gas drilling by means of high volume hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” in the Marcellus and Utica Shales.
