HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, LAWMAKERS, & ADVOCATES RELEASE NEW REPORT; CALL ON GOV HOCHUL TO PASS NY HEAT ACT
New report by Concerned Health Professionals of NY and Physicians for Social Responsibility shows the many negative health impacts of burning fracked gas in homes, illustrates urgent need for NY HEAT Act to get off gas and protect marginalized communities
ALBANY, NY (10/19/2023) (readMedia)-- Doctors and scientists, along with Senator Gustavo Rivera, more lawmakers and advocates, will release a major new report that presents the mounting evidence showing that burning fracked gas in homes for heating, hot water, and cooking has a detrimental impact on human health and the climate, with environmental justice implications as low-income communities of color are at particular risk. With the launch of this new report, the group will call on Governor Hochul to commit to passing the NY HEAT Act in next year's budget.
The NY HEAT Act will help get New York off climate-destroying fossil fuels, and stop New Yorkers from having to pay for expanding and replacing the polluting, expensive, and outdated fracked gas pipeline network that's causing childhood asthma, other forms of respiratory illness, and exposure to carcinogens with no known safe levels, such as benzene. It will also save overburdened New Yorkers up to $75 on their monthly energy bills.
