Hampshire Native enlists in Illinois Army National Guard
SPRINGFIELD, IL (02/07/2018) (readMedia)-- Springfield, Ill. – Pvt. Ethan Lay, of Hampshire, Illinois, was sworn into the Illinois Army National Guard Feb. 6, at the Chicago Military Entrance Processing Station.
Lay enlisted as a 12W, Carpentry and Masonry Specialist, and is assigned Company C, Recruit Sustainment Program in Machesney Park, Illinois.
Upon completion of his initial training, Lay will be assigned to the 616th Engineer Utility Company.
Lay is a 2018 graduate of Hampshire High School, Hampshire, Illinois.
After successfully completing his training, Lay will be eligible for the Illinois National Guard Grant, which pays 100 percent of college tuition while he works as a full-time student and a part-time Soldier. He will also be eligible for the Select Reserve G.I. Bill and federal tuition assistance.
Staff Sgt. Chad Wille of Company C, congratulated Lay and welcomed him into the Illinois Army National Guard.
