Hartwick Women's Tennis Placed Four on CSC Academic All-District Team

The Hartwick Women's Tennis program landed four Hawks on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. Gianna Leggieri '27 (Ballston Lake, New York) and Lily Vanuga '26 (Springville, New York) earned repeat selections to the All-District Team, while Maggie Van Valkenburgh '26 (Highland, New York) and Samantha Lantzy '27 (Valatie, New York) collected the first CSC academic honors of their careers as the reigning Empire 8 Champions continued to add to an impressive list of accolades.

Leggieri enjoyed a breakout junior campaign, earning Empire 8 Doubles Team of the Year honors alongside partner Phoebe Olson '26 (Jamestown, N.D.). The duo dominated conference competition with a 9-1 Empire 8 record and finished with 13 overall victories at the top doubles spot. Their strong play earned them Empire 8 First Team Doubles honors and a Doubles Team of the Week selection. Leggieri also excelled in singles competition, posting a 12-5 overall record and an unbeaten 8-0 mark in conference play to earn Second Team Singles recognition. She was named the team's MVP and received Hartwick's Philip S. Wilder, Jr. Award for academic distinction earlier this year.

Vanuga posted a 7-1 conference singles record to earn Empire 8 Second Team Singles honors while also excelling in doubles play. Partnering with Lantzy at No. 2 doubles, the pair finished with a perfect 10-0 conference mark and secured Empire 8 Second Team Doubles recognition along with a Doubles Team of the Week honor. Vanuga was named the recipient of Hartwick's Margaret Lunn Memorial Award, presented to a senior women's student-athlete who exemplifies athletic ability, leadership and sportsmanship. She also earned the Philip S. Wilder, Jr. Award for academic distinction and was named to the Empire 8 President's List in the fall.

Van Valkenburgh made her debut on the CSC Academic All-District Team following another dominant season in the blue and white. The senior posted unbeaten conference records in both singles and doubles play while compiling 14 singles victories overall, including 10 in conference action, to earn Empire 8 Second Team Singles honors. In doubles competition, she teamed with Maddi Morrison '26 (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) to collect 11 wins and seven conference victories, helping the duo earn a Doubles Team of the Week selection and Empire 8 Second Team Doubles honors. Van Valkenburgh concluded one of the most accomplished careers in program history with a perfect 35-0 conference record across four seasons, helping guide the Hawks to four regular season championships and three conference tournament titles. She received Hartwick's LeRoy S. House, Jr. Memorial Award for exceptional enthusiasm, dedication and service to Hartwick Athletics and also earned the Philip S. Wilder, Jr. Award for academic distinction.

Lantzy rounded out the quartet with the first CSC Academic All-District honor of her career after a standout junior season. Taking over the top singles position, she recorded 10 victories overall and posted a 7-2 conference mark. Her efforts earned her Empire 8 First Team Singles honors, and she was named Empire 8 Player of the Week three times throughout the season. Lantzy was also named the Empire 8 Women's Tennis Torchbearer Award recipient, recognizing the highest GPA among competing student-athletes, and received the Philip S. Wilder, Jr. Award for academic distinction.
