Civil War Veteran Pvt. William W. Clark of East Machias was buried without a headstone. A new Government furnished headstone will be dedicated on July 31, 2010.

AUGUSTA, ME (07/29/2010)(readMedia)-- An East Machias Civil War Veteran, Private William Wallace Clark, was buried upon his death in 1924 at the Richards Cemetary in Jonesport. Clark was wounded during the Civil War and suffered from his wounds for his entire life.

Clark was buried without a head stone. Through research the family has identified his exact burial location and a headstone, provided by the Government, will be dedicated on July 31, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the cemetary in Jonesport, Maine. Military Honors will be rendered.

WHO:

Pvt. William Wallace Clark, Civil War Veteran from East Machias, Maine.  Clark was a member of both Company D, 31st Maine Infantry, and near the end of the war, was transferred to the well known 20th Maine.

New grave headstone for Pvt. Clark will be dedicated; military honors will be rendered.
