Highland Park Student Honored by Concordia University, St. Paul for Service to Community

ST. PAUL, MN (04/27/2009)(readMedia)-- Concordia University, St. Paul student Paul Azen of Highland Park, Minn., received the University's 2009 Student Community Building Brick Award in recognition of his significant involvement in PLUS Time, an after-school tutoring program serving at-risk youth. Azen's accomplishment was recognized during the University's annual Honors Convocation on Wednesday, April 22. Azen is a junior at Concordia majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Eucation. He has worked at PLUS (Playful Learning with University Students) Time for two years helping children with their homework, tutoring them in various areas of study, and mentoring them through after school activities. "I have loved every moment that I have been able to work with these kids," Azen said. "I love that I am being honored with this award."

Concordia's Student Community Building Brick Award honors one traditional junior or senior student who demonstrates both a breadth and depth of commitment to a community organization or social issue, and is a pillar of his/her campus and in his/her community. They support the civic efforts of others and take leadership roles in addressing and finding solutions to issues that face their communities.
