HISTORIC MADISON THEATRE TO RE-OPEN JAN 17th

ALBANY MAYOR SHEEHAN WILL CUT THE RIBBON

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 14, 2013

The Historic Madison Theatre re-opens its doors under new management on January 17th, beginning with a tribute to Paul Newman. Newly elected Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Assemblymember Patricia Fahy and Madison Neighborhood Association President Virginia Hammer will be there at 5 pm to cut the ribbon and begin a new era of classic and second run films at the neighborhood theatre. "These types of community movie theatres have basically disappeared as the industry has grown and independent and second run theatres are few and far between," said Darren Grout, CEO of Madison Entertainment Group. "We've brought back to the community the second run theatre concept and added a modern touch to the seating, viewing and sound," he added.

"The city is thrilled to have the Madison Theatre back in action for the upper Madison neighborhood," said Mayor Sheehan. "I applaud the concept of a community, second run theatre and the overall effort that has been put into revitalizing an important piece of history in the heart of the city."

"The Madison Theatre has been an iconic landmark in Albany's Pine Hills neighborhood," said Assemblymember Fahy. "The Madison Entertainment Group's building renovation will help promote the theater and neighborhood as a destination for entertainment. I applaud their efforts in returning the movie-going experience to this neighborhood."

The theatre re-opens with a week-long tribute to the late Paul Newman, showing four of his iconic films: Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, The Sting, Slapshot, and Cool Hand Luke. "It's a simple formula: we plan on showing the classics, old and contemporary," said Dan Laiosa, general manager of the Madison. "From Lawrence of Arabia to Caddyshack, we plan on showing them all," he added. Madison Entertainment Group has equipped the theatre with new seats, new sound and a fully updated digital picture. The renovated concession will offer organic popcorn, as well as other natural and organic treats. Admission will be $5.00 for a movie and concessions will be moderately priced.
