Homemade Fair Favorite Foods Earn Honors for Urbandale Woman
DES MOINES, IA (08/19/2011)(readMedia)-- Daphane Trevillyan of Urbandale earned top honors in the Our Front Porch Books Favorite Fair Foods competition judged Tuesday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Second place honors were awarded to Laura Larson of Des Moines, and Karen Jean Harshbarger of Mediapolis took third.
Entrants were challenged to create a dish that reminded them of the Iowa State Fair and include with it a short explanation of why they associated the dish with their time at the Fair. Entries were judged on taste, appearance and meaning behind the dish.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
"Nothing Compares" to the 2011 Iowa State Fair, celebrating 100 years of the Butter Cow August 11-21. The Fairgrounds are located at East 30th and East University Avenue, just 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines, and are open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. each day of the Fair. Exhibit hours may vary.
