Students write messages on balloons and prepare to launch

ANNVILLE, PA (02/25/2011)(readMedia)-- The Lebanon Valley College chapter of Colleges Against Cancer will honor cancer patients and caregivers during the second annual balloon launch on Tuesday, Mar. 15 at 11 a.m. at the gazebo outside the Mund College Center. Balloons may be purchased for $1 at the Mund College Center during lunch hours from Feb. 28 to Mar. 15.

The biodegradable balloons can be personalized with messages to honor or remember those who are currently battling or have battled cancer. The event is an effort to allow the LVC community an opportunity to send up prayers and hopes for those who suffer from the impacts of the disease. All proceeds from the launch will benefit the Lebanon Valley College Relay for Life on Mar. 18, an event that raises funds for the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

Each year, more than 3.5 million people in 5,000 communities in the United States, along with additional communities in 20 other countries, gather to take part in the relays around the world to raise funds and awareness to save lives from cancer.
