Host Families Wanted for BCD Norwegian Student Summer Program

Community families are asked to considering hosting a young student from Norway, July 2-24

LENOX, MA (06/11/2007)(readMedia)-- Berkshire Country Day School, an independent school serving pre-kindergarten through grade 9, is looking for community families interested in hosting a young student from Norway as part of a three-week cultural immersion program in American life and culture. BCD has been sponsoring this program since 1994, providing 20 young people each summer with an opportunity to come to America, experience the Berkshires and American home life, travel to Martha’s Vineyard and New York City, and practice their English. While on the BCD campus, students will take day cultural and recreational field trips and classes in Theatre and English.

Hosts are asked to integrate their student into the family’s home life for a truly American experience and to transport the student to and from BCD in Lenox (there are carpooling opportunities) while the group is in the Berkshires and not traveling. While the majority of the students coming will reside with BCD families and faculty, the program is in urgent need of additional housing.

As one family shared after hosting a student, “….it not only taught us a lot about a part of the world of which we knew little (Norway), it taught us a lot about ourselves and our capacity for community…it was a total gift to all of us.”

“We are extremely excited about the opportunity to play hosts to another group of fine young men and women from Norway,” says Head of School Rob Peterson. “We invite members of the community to join the many BCD families who are opening their home this summer to make a new friend and share in a cross-cultural experience.”
