SPRINGFIELD, IL (11/16/2010)(readMedia)-- The Illinois Army National Guard's Assistant Adjutant General – Army, Maj. Gen. Dennis Celletti of Springfield presents the state Safety and Occupational Health Manager, Lt. Col. Delbert Ford of Galesburg, and State Aviation Officer, Lt. Col. Randy Sikowski of Decatur, the Army National Guard Stellar Safety Award Nov. 16 at Camp Lincoln.

"The Illinois Army National Guard is conscience of safety," said Ford. "They're aware of safety, they preach safety. From the leadership on down to Pvt. Snuffy, everyone stresses safety."

Illinois was one of three states out of the Nation's 54 states and territories to receive the award. Illinois has had no loss of life or serious injury or major vehicle or equipment damage during the fiscal years 2005 to 2010, said Sikowski, who as the state aviation officer also leads the Illinois National Guard's safety program.

The award is representation of each unit commander's dedication to safety while their Soldier train and drill, said Sikowski. The award reflects The Illinois Army National Guard's safety record and the attention to this detail by all its Soldiers.

"We've pushed the Army accident avoidance course, the commander's safety philosophy and ensuring composite risk management is done all levels," said Sikowski.

Sikowski said it was with the efforts of the commanders out in the field putting safety first and the wellness of their Soldiers that lead to the Illinois National Guard receiving this recognition.
