Illinois Engineer Battalion Welcomes New Commander

MILAN, IL (08/18/2016)(readMedia)-- The Illinois National Guard's 123rd Field Artillery, based in Milan, Illinois, transitioned to engineers and welcomed new commander Aug 13. After serving three years as the commander Lt. Col. Corey Wise, of Bryant, Illinois, relinquished command to Lt. Col. Krista M. Soria. Lt. Col. Soria, a native of Gallup, New Mexico, entered the United States Army in 1998. She earned her commission from New Mexico Military Institute in 2000, and went on to attend Baylor University and New Mexico State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2002. During this time she also served as a platoon leader in both Texas and New Mexico National Guard. Soria served on active duty from 2002- 2007 and deployed to Jordan and Iraq. She joined the Illinois Army National Guard in 2007. She assumed command of Alpha Company, 634th Brigade Support Battalion and deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom VIII. From 2010-2012, Soria served as the U.S. Army Africa Desk Officer and Israel Desk Officer at the National Guard Bureau, Arlington, Virginia. In 2014, she transitioned to the Army Capabilities Integration Center, Fort Eustis, Virginia, and served as a Strategic Analyst.
