MILWAUKEE, WI (09/22/2011)(readMedia)-- Inas Murrar, a second-year dental student, and Alex D. Johnson, an undergraduate communication student, will represent the Marquette University student body as speakers at the inauguration ceremony of the university's 23rd president, Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., Friday Sept. 23, 2011, at 10 a.m. in the Al McGuire Center, 770 N. 12th Street.
Murrar, of Franklin, Wis., is in her second year at the Marquette University School of Dentistry. She received her undergraduate degree from Marquette's College of Health Sciences in 2011. Murrar was a Burke Scholar, a four-year, full tuition scholarship program that integrates community service and academics.
Johnson, a senior from Bellwood, Ill., is a broadcast and electronic communication major in the Diederich College of Communication and an Evans Scholar. Evans Scholars have been awarded a four-year, full housing and tuition scholarship based on their high school grades, leadership, strong record as a golf caddie and financial need. Johnson has also held a variety of leadership roles on campus.
"Inas and Alex exemplify the characteristics of the ideal Marquette University student who is academically talented, involved in leadership and service activities," said Stephanie Quade, dean of students. "Both of these students are superlative candidates for this occasion, and are considered by many to be the best representatives of all students at Marquette."
