Insurance Agent Arrested For Submitting Fake Applications
NEW YORK,NY (03/25/2010)(readMedia)-- An insurance agent who collected $5,000 in advance sales commissions by creating fake insurance applications was arrested Tuesday, the New York State Insurance Department reported.
Juan Cabrera, 42, a self-employed agent, entered fictitious names on 61 applications for Aflac insurance policies and then submitted them to the insurer between 2006 and late 2008. The applications were discovered to be fraudulent when the company never received premiums for any of the policies.
Cabrera, of Larch Drive, Mahopac, Putnam County, was charged with larceny after his arrest by the office of Bronx County District Attorney Robert T. Johnson. The arrest followed an investigation by the Insurance Department's Frauds Bureau.
If he is convicted of the felony charge, Cabrera faces up to seven years in prison. A hearing will be scheduled in Bronx County Court.
