BURLINGTON, VT (10/23/2012)(readMedia)-- The Office of International Education at Champlain College is sponsoring its second annual International Education Week to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. Monday through Friday, Oct. 29 – Nov. 2, please join Champlain College to celebrate our connection with the world around us.

Designated by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, this week is part of an effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad study and exchange experiences.

Champlain's International Education Week itinerary is as follows:

  • Monday, Oct. 29 – 6th Annual China Town Hall Live Webcast from Beijing, China. 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. in the Morgan Room, Aiken Hall. Gary Locke, U.S. Ambassador to the People's Republic of China presents "Issues in U.S. – China Relations" followed by local speaker, Dr. James Cross, Associate Provost, Champlain College. "The 100,000 Strong Initiative: The Challenges & Opportunities of Education Collaboration between the U.S. and China." The Office of International Education in cooperation with The Vermont Council on World Affairs & the National Committee on U.S. China Relations hosts this 6th annual event. This program will open with a live webcast from Beijing followed by a discussion with the local audience.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 30 – CCA Speaker Series: Author & Activist, Melanie Robbins presents, "Building a Just Peace: Empowering Youth to Utilize Media as a Tool in Conflict Resolution." 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. IDX Fireside Lounge. CCA Cultural Community Alliance invites you to attend a presentation on Windows for Peace and their Youth programs which promote human rights and justice through media. Professor, Erik Esckilsen will join the discussion.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 31 – Celebrate the Global Experience. 6:00-7:30 p.m. IDX Fireside Lounge. Come join the study abroad students and other international travelers while they share their global adventures. Bring your stories, photos & memories. A scavenger hunt planned. Sponsored by the Office of International Education.
  • Thursday, Nov. 1 – Halloween Dance. 8:00-11:00 p.m. IDX Argosy Gym. Did you know the Halloween culture can be traced back to Celtic culture in Ireland, Britain and Northern Europe over 2,000 years ago? Join in this annual celebration in costume and dance. Sponsored by Student Activities.
  • Friday, Nov. 2 – International Night. Meet in IDX Fireside Lounge at 6:30 p.m. The Cultural Community Alliance hosts our international students in an evening of fun activity.
