Jacquet Wins Timbermen Scholarship

HOUGHTON, MI (04/01/2013)(readMedia)-- The Michigan Association of Timbermen (MAT) has awarded its annual Jess Birtcher Scholarships, and all three 2013 winners are students at Michigan Technological University's School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science.

Winning top scholarship honors is Bryce Jauquet of Sagola. Jauquet's father, Paul, works in the timber industry and Bryce has worked as a summer employee for longtime Timbermen member, J. Carey Logging, Inc. in Channing for years. Bryce is a graduate of North Dickinson High School.

Zachary Cameron of Gladwin, Mich., will also receive Jess Birtcher scholarship funds. He is the son of Timbermen member Kirk Cameron Forest Products and has spent his summers working for both his family and Biewers Sawmill in McBain.

Kyle Barry of Hessel, Mich., is the third scholarship recipient for 2013. Kyle has been employed by Timbermen member The Maples Sawmill, Inc. in Hessel since 2008. He was hard at work in the sugar bush preparing for maple syrup season when he learned of his scholarship award.

"We certainly take pride in your accomplishments," said Dean Terry Sharik in a letter congratulating the scholarship winners.

All three forest management students have earned other accolades ranging from high school athletics to individual scholarly awards, community service recognition and support from their forest industry employers, said MAT President Brenda Owen, a Michigan Tech alumna.
