BURLINGTON, VT (10/07/2009)(readMedia)-- James P. Cross of Burlington has joined Champlain College as the new Associate Provost and Senior International Officer. He comes to Champlain from Clemson University where he served as the vice provost for international affairs and professor of political science.

This semester 74 Champlain students are studying abroad at Champlain campus programs in Montreal, Quebec, Dublin, Ireland and Mumbai, India. The Burlington campus is hosting 17 international students from 14 countries.

Cross has more than 25 years of experience in international education in both academic and applied settings working for the United Nations' International Fund for Agricultural Development, the NATO Parliament, Loyola University Chicago's Rome Center, Business International, Heidelberg College, Michigan Technological University, Clemson University and now Champlain College. He earned the Doctoral Degree in Political Science from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and holds graduate degrees and certificates from the European Institute for International Studies at the University of Nice and the Hague Academy of International Law in the Netherlands. Cross is a graduate of the University of Vermont and was named the 1979 Harry S. Truman Scholar from the State of Vermont.

He currently serves as the NAFSA Association of International Educators Senior International Officer Network Manager and is a member of the Executive Boards of the IIE Global Engineering Education Exchange and the Center for Cross Cultural Studies (CC-CS). He recently served as the President of the Administrative Council of the Clemson University Brussels Center and Chaired the Atlantic Coast Conference International Academic Collaborative. Cross' areas of academic grant writing and scholarship include international development, international economic policy, international education, international politics and international security.
