Jay Williams of Johnson City to be Inducted into Oglethorpe University Athletic Hall of Fame

ATLANTA, GA (04/13/2010)(readMedia)-- Oglethorpe University will induct alumnus Jay Williams '99 into its Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his achievements on the University's men's soccer team. The honor will be given during the 175th Anniversary Gala and Awards Banquet on Friday, April 17, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at The Retreat of Dunwoody at Perimeter Summit in Atlanta, Georgia.

Originally from Johnson City, Tennessee, Williams attended Science Hill High School, where he played varsity soccer for three years and was co-captain his senior year. In his sophomore and senior years the team made it to the semi-finals of the 5-A State Championship.

Williams was a four-year starter in Oglethorpe men's soccer, leading the team in scoring all four years. He was elected by his teammates as the MVP of offense all four years. During his junior and senior years, he served as co-captain and was selected as a First Team All-Conference player. During Williams' senior year, he was selected as a NCAA Division-III Second Team All-South player and finished his college career with 40 goals.

Williams earned a Bachelor's of Science in Accounting from Oglethorpe in 1999 and a Master's of Business Administration from Georgia State University in 2002. Williams has remained active in the Oglethorpe community serving as a class agent, a director on the Board of the Oglethorpe University National Alumni Association, and currently on OU Board of Trustees. He is currently the CFO of Commodity Marketing Company, a commodity trading company in Alpharetta, Georgia.
