Jazz `N Caz to Honor Local Musician and Arts Administrator

CAZENOVIA, NY (09/10/2010)(readMedia)-- Since Laurance A. Luttinger earned bachelor's and master's degrees in music from Syracuse University, he has been instrumental in promoting jazz in Central New York. As the 2010 recipient of the Jazz `N Caz award, Luttinger will be honored on Friday, Sept. 24, at 9:15 p.m., during Jazz `N Caz, at the Catherine Cummings Theatre at Cazenovia College, 16 Lincklaen Street, in Cazenovia. Luttinger, of Liverpool, N.Y., founded the Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit performing organization that presents jazz in concert, cabaret, scholastic and festival settings across the region, to an annual audience of 80,000 in public and in schools.

He has served as chairman of the Syracuse University Music Industry Department and director of the university's Jazz Ensembles. He has also chaired the Music Departments of the Summerfame High School for the Performing Arts and the Metropolitan School for the Arts, and was executive treasurer of the International Association for Jazz Education-NYS Chapter. He is a recipient of the Updowntowner of the Year Award and is a member of the SAMMYS Hall of Fame.

Luttinger has been a member of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra since 1986. He plays drum set for the CNY Jazz Orchestra. He recorded and toured extensively for the award-winning Society for New Music during his fourteen-year tenure as their percussionist and has performed and toured with many well-known jazz artists and touring shows.
