Julie Beitelspacher named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (08/01/2011)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Julie Beitelspacher of LeMars as an Iowan of the Day for the 2011 Iowa State Fair.

Beitelspacher is a proud member of the LeMars community and goes above and beyond to make it a wonderful place to live. She is active in the LeMars Chamber of Commerce, president of the Rotary Club, treasurer of the LeMars Alumni Association, board member of United Way and treasurer of the Education Enhancement Program. Beitelspacher is also involved with her church, the Charity Circle group and enjoys delivering Meals on Wheels to homebound in her community.

Beitelspacher has a passion for youth and agriculture. She has been a member of the County Extension Council for 12 years and volunteers countless hours during the Plymouth County Fair. She has been a 4-H club leader, entry judge and even has her own radio show to interview the 4-H'ers during her county fair.

"She truly embodies the Iowa Spirit!" said Kari Kopperud, Beitelspacher's daughter and nominator. "Her work ethic, commitment to youth and community, and kind heart make her worthy of receiving recognition. She has helped to better her community in so many aspects and has touched the lives of people of all ages."

Beitelspacher's day of recognition will be Sunday, August 14 at the 2011 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, she will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Beitelspacher will also receive a special introduction at 2:30 p.m. August 14 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $80 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
