FULTON, MO (12/19/2013)(readMedia)-- Internships are becoming an important piece of the educational package for college students, and this past summer several William Woods University students experienced internships that could lead to fulfilling careers.
Katherine Zimmer, a senior from Barrington, Ill., worked for SiriusXM Ch. 59 The Highway in Nashville, Tenn., as a music programming intern. She managed social media, assisted in live show production, and attended press events, interviewing country artists.
Among the celebrities she met were Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum, Blake Shleton, Little Big Town, Darius Rucker, Hunter Hayes, Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, Lee Brice, Sheryl Crow, Florida Georgia Line, Justin Moore, Kip Moore, Randy Houser, and Scotty McCreery.
A communications major with concentrations in broadcasting and public relations, Zimmer also did social media, audio editing, and daily news writing at the CMA Music Festival, and was a talent escort Nov. 7 for the 47th CMA Awards.
"My mentor was amazing and involved me in every aspect of her day," Zimmer said. "I not only got to experience how a large market radio station runs, I got to see all of the inner workings of the whole country music industry."
After graduation in December, Zimmer plans to move to Nashville to pursue a career within the country music industry, either in public relations on the record label side or possibly in radio/TV production.
