Kayla Irvin of Houston selected to All-SCAC First Team

GEORGETOWN, TX (05/24/2011)(readMedia)-- Georgetown (Texas) – Kayla Irvin, a first-year designated player from Houston, was an All-SCAC First Team selection as a designated player for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Irvin is a member of the softball team at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

Irvin has made a name for herself within the conference already in her first season as a Pirate, making pitchers work on the mound and instilling fear in the heart of opponents. She has a .316 batting average with 43 hits in 136 at bats but a .551 slugging percentage with 75 total bases. Her nine homeruns leads the Pirates and is tied for second in the SCAC. Irvin is also tied for first on the team with 34 RBI's.

She is the daughter of Fred and Mary Beth. She is a graduate of Cypress Creek High School.

Southwestern was just one game out of the Championship game at the SCAC Tournament this weekend. They end the year with a 29-15 overall record and will have to wait a week to find out if they receive a bid to the NCAA Regionals.
