Lakeville Natives Among Volleyball Team Members to Earn National Academic Excellence Award

Concordia University, St. Paul Volleyball Team

ST. PAUL, MN (08/02/2011)(readMedia)-- As members of the DII Concordia University, St. Paul Golden Bears volleyball team, Taylor Fieldsted and Cassie Weaver, of Lakeville, Minn., and their teammates, earned the AVCA Academic Excellence Award, which recognizes programs nationwide that average a 3.30 GPA or higher. The Concordia University, St. Paul volleyball team captured the award for the eighth consecutive year by earning a 3.475 GPA. This is the fourth straight season the team won the award in addition to capturing the national title--a feat accomplished only 13 other times since the award debuted in 1992-1993.

The AVCA chooses from 10 classification levels; all three NCAA divisions in women's volleyball, NAIA women, two-year college women, NCCAA women, NCAA men, NAIA men and high school boys and girls. Concordia has won the award every year under Head Coach Brady Starkey, who is the NCAA's winningest active coach in all three divisions.
