CAZENOVIA, NY (04/06/2012)(readMedia)-- The Cazenovia College Art Gallery in Reisman Hall is hosting the annual Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibitions, now through May 1. The exhibition will include work by visual communications, studio art, photography and interior design degree candidates from Cazenovia College's Division of Art and Design.
Lara Wright, of Farmington, N.Y., was raised in Gorham, N.Y., and is a bachelor of fine arts degree candidate at Cazenovia College. Her exhibition, titled "The Potter and the Clay," runs from April 21 through 25, with a reception on April 21 from 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Wright mainly works in sculptural media such as clay and glass; and also works in the fiber arts. Her interests are shared between the fine arts and theatrical arts. She will be attending graduate school in the coming year, working toward a master's degree in art education, with plans to become an art teacher at the secondary level.
In her artist's statement, Wright says, "There is always a place and a need for spirituality in the art world. All of my art is a celebration of my God and the gifts He has given me. Clay is a natural material that fuels one of the oldest and most traditional methods of production. Throwing clay provides a meditative outlet in order to make utilitarian objects that have the ability to become a part of anyone's life. Another centuries old concept and consistent usage is that of a blanket; it's one of the oldest methods of survival. Quilting provides the same kind of meditation as throwing, to also produce objects that can be useful in anyone's life for years to come. My art then becomes less about me and the gifts God has given to me, and more about the lives they have the potential to influence."
