Sophomore defender Lauren Kirby, of the Oglethorpe women's soccer team, earned Southern Athletic Association Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 9-15) for her efforts in a pair of Stormy Petrel wins over the weekend.
Kirby featured big in wins over Bob Jones and Huntingdon. She tallied three assists for the weekend, accounting for both goals against Bob Jones University in a 2-0 win on Friday and another against Huntingdon College in a 3-0 victory on Sunday.
Kirby's outstanding defensive playing has contributed to the team's five-game streak without a single goal being made on them. She currently sits tied for fourth in the league in assists with the three she accrued over the weekend.
Kirby and the rest of the Petrels will take on Agnes Scott College on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. as they look to match their best record to start a season since 2010. On Sunday, Sept. 22, the team heads south to Macon to play Wesleyan University at 5 p.m.
