Le Claire Resident Wins Several Illinois National Guard Marksmanship Awards

SPRINGFIELD, IL (08/23/2017) (readMedia)-- Spc. Derrick Stoddard of Le Claire, Iowa, an infantryman with Company A, 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment based in Bartonville, Illinois, won several awards, including the individual multi-gun champion, during the 2017 Illinois Army National Guard's Adjutant General Match at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, Aug. 20.

Stoddard was also a member of the champion pistol team. Following the competition, he was honored as a member of the "Governor's Twenty," which recognizes the top twenty marksmen in the Illinois Army National Guard.

The Adjutant General Match is a week-long competition, which allows servicemembers from the Illinois Army National Guard to compete for the honor of the state's top marksman. The competition tests proficiency and marksmanship with a variety of weapons including the M9 pistol, M4 Carbine Rifle and M500 shotgun. This year more than 75 individuals and 17 teams from across the Illinois Army National Guard competed.
