LOS LUNAS, NM (04/16/2012)(readMedia)-- UNM-Valencia Campus students and area high school students are invited to submit short films of any genre to the Leading Edge Film Festival. The festival will have two screenings of the submissions on Wednesday, April 25th on the UNM-Valencia Campus.
Formerly known as the Annual Student Film Festival, the Leading Edge Film Festival is now organized by the UNM-Valencia Media Arts Club (MAC), a club for students interested in the media arts.
Submissions will be taken through Monday, April 23rd. Films of any genre may be submitted as long as they are time-based works, which includes video, animation, stop-motion, etc. Films submitted need to be QuikTime movies (with an extension of .mov) and must be submitted on a CD or a DVD. Maximum length should be between 5-10 minutes, and there is no minimum length.
All UNM-Valencia students, and not just Digital Media Arts majors, are encouraged to submit. Submissions are also being taken from students attending Los Lunas High School, Valencia High School, School of Dreams Academy and Belen High School. Preference is given to UNM-Valencia students who are currently enrolled in classes at the Valencia campus.
A submission form must be completed and turned in with each film. The submission form can be found online at the UNM-Valencia DMA website, www.unm.edu/~dmavc/film_fest/submissions.html. Click on "Submission Form" on that page and print out the form for completion.
The form and film (on disc) can be taken to Room 111 in the Business and Technology Building located on the UNM-Valencia Campus. If you have any questions about the submission process or the film festival, please contact Alexa Wheeler (alexa08@unm.edu), or Jessica Montoya (jessam26@unm.edu), or Erika Saiz (esaiz31@unm.edu) or Monica Morales (mnc_morales@yahoo.com).
The Leading Edge Film Festival is the next event in the UNM-Valencia Spring 2012 Cultural Enrichment Series. There will be two screenings of the same program on Wednesday, April 25.
The first screening, scheduled for 10:30 to 11:45 am, will be the voting screening. Those attending that screening will vote for first, second and third places. Prizes will be awarded for those who place at the afternoon screening, scheduled for 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.
Both screenings will take place in the Student-Community Center located near the south parking lot on the south side of the UNM-Valencia Campus.
The film festival is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Some films may contain adult content.
