UNM-Valencia's 24th Annual MLK Day Celebration Features Businesswoman, Educator as Keynote Speaker

LOS LUNAS, NM (01/11/2013)(readMedia)-- Eloise Gift, a businesswoman and educator, will be the keynote speaker at the 24th annual salute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., slated for Saturday, Jan. 19, on the UNM-Valencia Campus.

This celebration honors the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and will feature a performance by the Belen Missionary Baptist Church Choir, as well as the keynote address by Gift.

Gift was born in rural Jamaica where she attended high school through University on merit scholarships. After college she got married and left teaching to join her husband on diplomatic assignments in the Americas and the Caribbean.

After raising her children, Gift returned to teaching and administration as a principal in international, independent and public schools. When she and her husband moved to Albuquerque in 2003, she became a real estate broker. Since 2009 she has been the owner of Gift Realty NM.

She was the Democratic candidate this past election for New Mexico State Representative in the new District 68.

The celebration is scheduled to start at 1 pm on the 19th in the UNM-Valencia Campus Student-Community Center. This year's event at the campus is being held on the Saturday preceding the national MLK Holiday on Jan. 21st.

This event is sponsored by Rio Abajo Lodge #17, the Mt. Everest Lodge #1, the Vision Lodge #18 and the UNM-Valencia Campus Community Education Services Program. Admission is free to this event and refreshments are served.

The Student-Community Center is located on the south side of the campus. As you enter the campus, turn left and follow the drive until it ends in the south parking lot.
