ALBANY, NY (11/14/2012)(readMedia)-- Mr. John Mylod, a man who has dedicated his life to protecting the beauty and fragility of the Hudson River, as well as the valley's environment and overall quality of life, has been honored by Environmental Advocates of New York for his many accomplished years of service and dedication to the Hudson Valley at the 2012 Advocate Awards.

Mylod, one of the last commercial fishermen on the Hudson River, served 18 years as the executive director of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. He is also the president of the nonprofit that owns the Springside National Historic Landmark in Poughkeepsie and, in addition to being an ardent advocate of the Hudson River, has fought tirelessly to preserve parkland and historic places for generations to come.

Robert Moore, Executive Director of Environmental Advocates of New York, said, "John Mylod is, in many ways, the conscience of the Hudson River. Few people have such a long association with the river or such a deep and moving connection to its waters and the communities along its banks."

"John is able to see through the things that too many of us get hung up on, and challenges us to take on what's truly important. He politely, gently, and relentlessly pushes us in the right direction, much like the river he loves so much," Moore added.

Each year, Environmental Advocates of New York's Board of Directors honors New Yorkers who have demonstrated exemplary service and leadership in protecting the state's environment. The 2012 Advocate Awards were held on Tuesday, November 13 in New York City.
