CAZENOVIA, NY (05/03/2012)(readMedia)-- Cazenovia College's final student art exhibition of the semester opened on May 2 in the Art Gallery in Reisman Hall with work by the Division of Art and Design Program Award winners. Gallery Director, Jen Pepper, associate professor of studio art, says, "We congratulate each of the five senior candidates for their extremely impressive work and very high honors of this tremendous accomplishment! This top notch exhibition is not to be missed."
Lisa Maria Goudey, of Lenox, Mass., a studio art major, specializing in photography, with a minor in art history, is exhibiting her photo series titled "Vanity." Other artists represented are Lindsay Bach, interior design; Lana Lewis, fashion design; Sarah Liddell, visual communications; and Lindsey Matousek, studio arts. All will receive a bachelor of fine arts degree at Cazenovia College's 187th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 12.
Goudey says, "I am honored to be able to represent the photography department in this exhibition. I have always been interested in using my work to bring attention to issues that are bigger than myself. I hope to present my work to more prestigious galleries and continue to work on more photographic series that speak to a larger concern."
In her artist's statement, Goudey writes, "As a religious person, I know that vanity is one of the seven deadly sins. However, as a member of American society, I am judged by the way I look. Caught between these two realities, I wanted to see what others do to stay beautiful. The photographs displayed in this series are of everyday people primping in a mirror. By using a two-way mirror, I provide a barrier for my subjects to offer a more "comfortable environment" and to allow them to view themselves privately. These photographs are a collection of the American people and their quest for beauty."
The show runs through Saturday, May 12. The Cazenovia College Art Gallery in Reisman Hall, 6 Sullivan St., is on the corner of Sullivan and Seminary streets in Cazenovia. Hours during the academic year are: Monday through Thursday, 1-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.; Friday, 1-4 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 2-6 p.m. Summer hours vary.
