Local Artists Interpret Castillo Novel 'So Far From God'

Exhibit on Display at UNM-Valencia Campus Library

LOS LUNAS, NM (10/01/2012)(readMedia)-- Images depicting interpretations of the novel So Far From God by Ana Castillo will be on display in the UNM-Valencia Campus Library through December 2012.

Local artists were invited by the campus library to create pieces inspired by the novel, and an opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 5, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Castillo's novel is about the miracles and tragedies of a Chicana mother and her four daughters. The setting for the novel is in the Tomé area. Castillo provides a world that is at times surreal or supernatural and at other times steeped in Hispanic New Mexican traditions.

All the characters in the book have idiosyncrasies that keep the reader involved, and all of the characters have a strength and beauty that Castillo is able to capture about the people of New Mexico.

Castillo's book has been banned in Tucson, AZ.
