Local Jazz Groups play at Jazz `N Caz Saturday Performance

Salt City Jazz Collective, Jazz `N Caz All-Star Swingtet, and honors to two jazz greats

CAZENOVIA, NY (09/16/2010)(readMedia)-- Cazenovia College's annual celebration of jazz, Jazz `N Caz, will feature local jazz groups, playing intimate jazz, on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Catherine Cummings Theatre at Cazenovia College, 16 Lincklaen St., in Cazenovia.

Jazz `N Caz runs from Thursday, Sept. 23 to Saturday, Sept. 25. A $10 donation is suggested for events at the Catherine Cummings Theatre. Visit www.cazenovia.edu/jazz to view the schedule. All attendees at the Friday and Saturday night performances may enter to win a day spa package at Ska:ná: the Spa at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y.

At 4 p.m. the Cazenovia High School Chamber Choir will open the evening with several jazz standards.

The Salt City Jazz Collective takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. The group includes music educators, touring musicians, freelance musicians, business professionals, and university professors, sharing their affinity for jazz. The band members are Steve Carney, Jeff Stockham, Rob Robson, and John Laverty on trumpet; Joe Colombo, Angelo Candela, Mark Anderson, Jim Lamica on trombone; Joe Riposo, John Delia, Jim Spadafore, Bob Cesari, Paul Dipastena on saxophone; Tom Witkowski at the piano; Bill Kahl on bass; with Greg Evans and Tom Killian on drums.

At 9:15 p.m., Larry Luttinger, executive director of CNY Jazz Central, will receive the 2010 Jazz `N Caz Award, honoring his dedication to promoting jazz in Central New York.

At 9:30 p.m., the Jazz 'N Caz All Star Swingtet, fronted by Warren Chiasson, with Ken Peplowski, Danny D'Imperio, Harold Danko, and Linc Milliman will offer a special tribute to Jack Maheu, who played at Jazz 'n Caz until 2005 when he suffered a stroke. A set of Maheu's CDs will be available for purchase.

For diehards, Jazz After Hours at the Lincklaen House, on the corner of Albany & Lincklaen streets, begins at 11 p.m., with musicians jamming informally.
