Local Resident Receives Statwide Volunteer Award

George Bauer, Credit Union Association of New York's, 2009 Volunteer of the Year

ALBANY, NY (08/14/2009)(readMedia)-- Rome resident George Bauer was named a 2009 Outstanding Volunteer by the Credit Union Association of New York at their annual Convention held recently in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The Volunteer of the Year award recognizes individuals who exemplify commitment to a credit union or to the New York credit union movement.

"Volunteers like George are an essential part of what makes credit unions uniquely able to help members build a better financial future," said William J. Mellin, the Association's president/CEO.

Bauer has served as a member of AmeriCU Federal Credit Union's board of directors since 1997 and has been its recording officer since 2000. Representing and advancing the interests of AmeriCU is nothing new to Bauer, who is also one of the credit union's governance officers. In 2008, he took that commitment a step further by serving as the interim CFO for the credit union when long-time CFO unexpectedly passed away.

During that time, Bauer worked on the development of the credit union's 2009 financial plan, evaluated and reviewed the performance of the their supervisory committee, and closely monitored the implications of political activity on both the state and federal levels.
