Local educators fly with Maine Army National Guard

BANGOR, MAINE (11/25/2019) (readMedia)-- Fifteen Maine school staff members had the opportunity to take to the skies Nov. 14th in a UH-60 Blackhawk as part of an educator lift hosted by the Maine Army National Guard.

The intent of the educator lift is to enhance relationships with local school departments and provide an opportunity for teachers, counselors and administrators to learn more about the kinds of programs the Army National Guard can offer students while they are still in school, as well as the career options that are available.

"It was absolutely awesome," said Kathy Richards, a Jobs for Maine Graduates instructor from Foxcroft Academy whose father was a National Guardsman. "It gives me a story to take back and tell my students."

"I'm a guidance counselor so I work with a lot of kids that are interested in military service of all kinds," said Bangor High's Adam Leach. "I've enjoyed working with Sgt. 1st Class Patterson and everyone that comes in and talks about what you do."

Participating schools also included the Tri-County Technical Center and United Technologies Center, as well as Cony, Carrabec, Lawrence, Medomak Valley and Belfast high schools, and the University of Maine.
