BARBOURVILLE, KY (10/11/2013)(readMedia)-- During his time in Barbourville, Edward Daves de Rosset was a frequent presence in the world of service.

To recognize this, de Rosset was recently awarded the Distinguished Service Award as part of the Union College Alumni Banquet and Awards Ceremony. The ceremony was held Saturday, Oct. 5 on Union's campus as part of Union College's annual homecoming weekend. De Rosset was joined by 7 individuals and 2 teams who were also recognized.

De Rosset's giving nature and willingness to teach about service by doing rather than telling impacted the lives of not only Union students, but of community members also. Whether he was taking pictures of an event on campus, or out in the community with a hammer, he was and is always ready to serve his community. This willingness to serve is evidenced by the Leadership Tri-County William D. Hacker, M.D., Leader of the Year award he won in 2010.

He has served on numerous regional and community task forces, including the Downtown Barbourville Revitalization Program, Coordinator for the Appalachian Rural Wellness Initiative, Vice Chairperson of the Barbourville Urban Renewal and Community Development Agency Board and many others. He has also served at the state level as Vice Chairperson and member of the Executive Committee for the Kentucky Humanities Council Board.

The strongest evidence of his service comes from the testimonies of alumni who as students were able to witness his serving nature.

The Distinguished Service Award is present to a person who has demonstrated a commitment to promoting the goals and mission of the Alumni Association of Union College, and who has proven leadership and service within his or her community.
