Local student wins Fulbright Award to teach in Indonesia

BELOIT, WI (05/16/2013)(readMedia)-- Michigan City native Patrick Firme, who graduated earlier this month from Beloit College, received a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Firme will be an English teaching assistant at a public high school in Medan, Indonesia. The theatre, dance and media studies major plans to incorporate theater and improv into his lesson plans and seek opportunities to direct performances.

Firme is one of more than 1,700 U.S. citizens traveling abroad during the 2013-14 academic year as part of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Sponsored by the U.S. government, the Fulbright program is meant to foster intercultural understanding and operates in 155 countries worldwide.

Beloit College is a residential, liberal arts college offering 40 majors to its 1,250 students. Located 90 miles northwest of Chicago, Beloit is one of the nation's most international colleges, drawing students from 41 nations as well as 49 states.
