RALEIGH, NC (10/01/2010)(readMedia)-- North Carolina District Court Judge Henry L. Stevens IV issued the oath of office of the Adjutant General of the N. C. National Guard to Army Brig. Gen. Gregory A. Lusk this morning in the office of the N.C. Secretary of Crime Control and Public Safety. Lusk assumes command of the nearly 12,000 Soldiers and Airmen of the N.C. National Guard.

Lusk replaces the former adjutant general, Army Maj. Gen. William E. Ingram, Jr., who had served as the N.C. National Guard's adjutant general since July 16, 2001.

Lusk was announced as the new state adjutant general by Gov. Bev Perdue on Sept. 9. Perdue and Sec. Reuben F. Young, North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, both cited his strong leadership experience in commanding North Carolina's largest National Guard unit and his dedication to duty as some of the attributes considered in the decision to appoint him to the position.

As commander of the 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team, Lusk served two tours of duty in Iraq. He has been a member of the N.C. National Guard since August 1979. Among his awards are the Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Action Badge, Meritorious Service Award with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Iraq Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and a N.C. National Guard Service Award with a Gold Hornet's Nest.

Judge Stevens is also a combat veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the first Gulf War and in the 30th HBCT with Lusk in Iraq in 2004.

Lusk is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and a Master of Science in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College. He is married to Deana and they have three children.
