MAINE-ANJOU/MAINETAINER CHAMPIONS AT IOWA STATE FAIR
Burr Farms of Lone Tree captured both the Grand Champion Maine-Anjou Bull and Iowa Champion Bull banners in the Maine-Anjou Cattle Show August 9, at the 2008 Iowa State. Three generations of Burrs were involved in the cattle show, as Lloyd Burr, his son Richard and grand daughter Courntey exhibited Burr Farms cattle.
K & A Farm, Blakesburg, exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Maine-Anjou Bull.
The spring yearling heifer shown by Braun Show Cattle, Northwood, was selected Grand Champion Maine-Anjou Female. The Reserve Champion Maine-Anjou Female was exhibited by Mason Walker, Prairie Grove, Ark.
Grand Champion and Iowa Champion MaineTainer Bull was awarded to Salton Cattle Company, Ayrshire, with reserve honors going to Blueprint Cattle Company, Otley.
Grand Champion MaineTainer Female was a spring yearling heifer shown by Braun Show Cattle and the Reserve Champion title went to Regan Shockley, Bloomfield. The Iowa Champion MaineTainer Female was exhibited by Salton Cattle Company.
The Iowa State Fair Maine-Anjou Show has two divisions of classes for the breed. The Maine-Anjou classes are for high percentage females and bulls. The MaineTainer classes are for the low percentage Maine-Anjou cattle that are 1/4 to 5/8 purebred Maine-Anjou, registered in the AMAA and sired by a Maine-Anjou bull.
