WHO: Canal Director Brian U. Stratton joins Captain Wendy Marble to welcome aboard students from Orenda Elementary School (Shenendehowa) in Clifton Park.

WHY: In the spring and fall of each year the 111-year-old tugboat, and its crew of four, travels the waters of New York State educating students about the rich history of the canals. Students also gain valuable knowledge about the potential sources of contamination for our waterways, and how to take steps to protect our vital natural resources. The URGER is the flagship of the New York State Canal system, and has served as a floating museum and classroom since her retirement as a working tugboat in 1991.
