AUGUSTA, ME (07/11/2023) (readMedia)-- Nine soldiers from Maine's 146th Cyber Warfare Company (CWC) are mobilizing to Fort Gordon, Georgia, this month in support of Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER) for approximately one year.

"Our world is changing rapidly, and so is the battlefield," said Col. Michael Steinbuchel, deputy chief of staff for information management. "That means the total Army – active and reserve components – is having to evolve to meet cyber threats to our national security head on. We're proud to have the 146th in Maine and for what they bring to the fight."

"As always, we are indebted to our military families and employers for their constant support," said Maj. Gen. Douglas Farnham, Maine's adjutant general. "Our business model doesn't work without you. We support our state and nation's call whenever it comes, however it comes, and you are a key part of our success."

The mission of ARCYBER is to integrate and conduct cyberspace operations, electromagnetic warfare, and information operations in order to ensure decision dominance and freedom of action for friendly forces in the cyber domain. Additionally, ARCYBER works to deny the same advantages to adversaries.

The 146th CWC was stood up in November of 2017. Maine is home to Detachment 2 of the company, with the remainder of the unit assigned to the Massachusetts Army National Guard. The company is part of the larger 126th Cyber Protection Battalion, also based in Massachusetts.

Members of the 146th, alongside other Maine Army and Air personnel, were part of a real-world U.S. response to Maine's partner nation of Montenegro in the fall of 2022, when the country suffered a cyber attack on government networks.
